About Us
M&S Textiles Australia is the largest manufacturer of Australian Aboriginal designs. Their fabric is printed in Korea on high quality 100% cotton fabric. Australian Aboriginal or Indigenous designs are colorful, vibrant and decorative.
Sham and Momo Lohani founded this company in the early 1990’s in Melbourne, Australia. Sham and Momo originally were in a quandary. The Aboriginal designs are large, whereas quilters generally use smaller designs. In the end, the versatility of the designs and the genuine colors used won the hearts of quilters.
Aboriginal art is one of the longest continuing traditional arts in the world. This tradition goes back to over 50,000 years. Aboriginal designs and fabrics are popular throughout the world. Aboriginal fabrics are useful for almost anything such as interior or home decorations, apparel and accessories, shirts, women’s dresses, children’s dresses, bed sheets, bedcovers, table runners, table cloths, ties, scarves, and many more things.
Most of the Aboriginal designs printed by M&S Textiles have a Dreamtime story to tell. According to Aboriginal mythology, dreamtime is the time when the world was dark. There was nothing on earth. Soil was soft, their forefathers sprang up from underneath the soil and started building most of the requirement for their future generations; e.g. they built mountains, rivers, waterholes, trees, light gardens and more. The Dreamtime is not a religion or cult; it is the way of living or a philosophy of living. Body painting, corroboree1, men’s business, women’s business etc. are strictly obeyed by the Aboriginal people. Aboriginal people used to be nomadic; they used to collect foods from nature, by hunting and gathering. However, they never did anything to hoard or spoil nature. They honor their ancestral lands and environment.
Today, many Aboriginals get a good education. There are some Aboriginal doctors, professors, lawyers, parliamentarians etc. in the community. Aboriginals are good in songs, dances, body paintings, corroborees. They are proud to respect their culture.
H.D. Wilbanks purchased the company in May 2026.
1A corroboree is an event where Australian Aborigines interact with the Dreamtime through dance, music, and costume. "Their bodies pained in different ways, and they wore various adornments, which were not used every day."
